Reminder about Medicare Reimbursement for MHC and MFT Services!

Writer: Venesa DayVenesa Day

Just a reminder that as of January 1, 2024, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) allows Medicare to reimburse for Mental Health Counselor (MHC) and Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) services as authorized by Sections 4121 and 4124 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023.

The Maryland Department of Health (MDH) recommends eligible providers enroll with Medicare to ensure continuity of care for dually eligible beneficiaries. This link provides background and instructions on the coverage and the process for enrollment:PT64-24-Medicare-Coverage-of-Mental-Health-Counselor-Marriage-Family-3.8.2024.pdf (optum.com)

In addition , MDH and Optum are requesting eligible providers complete a survey by June 30, 2024, to help track provider Medicare enrollment status. You can find that information here:

As always, we are here to help in any way we can.
